This is organized as 3-parts to commemorate the 3 main types of soil.
The form of each zine is unique and based on the content.
For example, parent material is the base and extremely dense. To represent this, I chose thicker, cover stock paper and larger dimensions. Its contents cover soil formation and how the it is foundational to our urban landscape.
Digital
How do I reach a larger audience and have them feel more engaged with this work?
Flashback to elementary school and making dirt cups to learn about the different layers of soil.
While I can't offer my audience virtual pudding, I can remake this learning experience digitally and have the users take a quiz that reinforces what they learned with the zines. The quizzes are interactive and trigger helpful hints to pop up.
Paired with a regular socials presence, learning about dirt has never been more delectably enticing!

Conclusion
The Eat Dirt series connects New Yorkers to their local soil to foster a sense of environmental responsibility. By testing various interaction methods and information densities, I transformed complex composting regulations into digestible visual narratives that make ecological stewardship accessible to a modern audience.
